La mujer del collar de terciopelo - Alexandre Dumas

Poco antes de morir, Charles Nodier, el erudito bibliotecario de El Arsenal, le refiere a Dumas, el gran autor de Los Tres Mosqueteros y El Conde de Montecristo, la historia de La mujer del collar de terciopelo, con el fin de que quede constancia para la posteridad de un asombroso embrollo en que se vio envuelto E.T.A. Hoffmann durante su estancia en el turbulento París de los días del Terror... una estancia llena de sobresaltos y aventuras en un París donde los museos y bibliotecas están cerrados, pero la plaza de la Revolución permanece abierta y la guillotina dispuesta y donde Hoffmann está a punto de perder el cuello gracias a los encantos de la bella Arsène, bailarina de la ópera y amante de Danton.

Me llamó la atención este libro por que leí que era de horror o algo así, la verdad es que al principio no lo veía pero conforme fuí avanzando en la lectura entendí mejor la obra.

Yo solo podía pensar que Hoffman es el vivo retrato de la mayoría de los hombres: Tomando malas desiciones, dejandose llevar por impulsos, que lo llevaron a vivir esta historia.

Horror novella with supernatural shock ending. Dumas' hero in this short novel is a historical figure, the 17-year old future composer, musician, and romantic writer Ernst Theodor Hoffmann. Dumas avers that this story was originally told to him by his friend Charles Nodier, whose adventures during the terror Dumas chronicled in Les Blancs et les Bleus.Young Hoffmann sets out from Mannheim to visit Paris in 1793, at the height of the terror, having first promised his fiancée that he will not gamble and that he will be true to her.An unusual product for Dumas, in which the reader is never sure whether what is real, what is supernatural, and what is product of Hoffmann's growing madness. Also, a vivid portrait of Paris enmeshed in the terror.

I read this book because i read somewhere it was an horror book. The truth is at first i wasn't able to see it but as i went on reading, i could understand it better. I could only think Hoffman was the exact image of most men: Making wrong decisions and being impulsive, things that made him live this story.
