Yule 2011

Hace ya un par de años que ponemos un arbolito pequeño para estas fiestas. Pero este año mi novio y yo hicimos nuestro primer tronco de Yule. Lo hicimos con un tronco que encontré en la finca de mi bisabuela y me parece de lo más hermoso. No usamos pegamento alguno, solo atamos las cosas con cuerda y le pusimos ramas de pino y canela naturales!. Es algo simbólico y que estamos usando como adorno navideño en su apartamento.

En pocas palabras el tronco de Yule es una antigua tradición pagana en la que se encendía el tronco del año anterior para que ardiera poe 12 horas, dejando de trabajar durante ese tiempo. Es la versión puertas adentro de la hoguera de Litha. Luego se acostumbraba a esparcir las cenizas por los campos para la fertilidad.

Since a couple of years ago, my boyfriend and i put up a small christmas tree. And this year we made our first yule log! We made it with a log i found at my great-grandmother's house at the country and i think its beautiful. We didn't use any glue we just tied things with a string and put leaves and natural cinnamon. This is something simbolic that we are using as decoration at his apartment.

In few words Yule log is an ancient pagan tradition were people used to burn last year's log for 12 hours, stopping any kind of job meanwhile. Is the indoors version of the Litha bonfire. Then they used to spread the ashes on the fields to bring fertility as well.
