A chilling tale of the un-dead, Carmilla is a beautifully written example of the gothic genre. The story takes the reader into the dark, mysterious world of a girl and her family tormented by visitations and nightmares. While the continual reoccurrence of a beautiful woman, unknown, yet familiar, meanders through the lives of the characters, to the very heart of the story, the precise use of language emphasises and heightens the images that the book presents and sends the reader spiralling towards its conclusion. Said to be the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic masterpiece ‘Dracula’, Carmilla stands out as a classic horror masterpiece. (From amazon.com)

Carmilla is a short novel about a misterious girl that arrives at Laura's and her father's castle. She have a strange behavior, it was like she was actually in love with Laura but Laura didn't mind because she had no other friends and was very lonely. Then they realize Carmilla is a vampire! I knew about Carmilla's tale but never read it until a couple of months ago. And i tell you is one of those books i love! its about vampires of course, castles, graveyars and so many more gothic elements. Its an excelent short novel.
